I remember the smell of your house like it was yesterday.

I was coming over with Nay just to play.

I remember getting away with murder and never wanting to leave,

always wanting to stay.

I even remember how you’d used to pray,

kneeling down on the side of your bed,

begging God to forgive you for you had sinned,

begging God to protect your family,

so concerned with us, at times I wondered—

did you forget about yourself?

Your health?

In all aspects, mentally and physically,

I always think of you,

as you will forever live in me.

Dang, I’d do anything to feel your touch,

to get a hug, touch your hand, or a little rub.

Granny, I love you, please watch me from above,

watch me grow to a woman as good as you,

as wise, as beautiful, as filled with love.

You were a woman of multiple chances,

a woman of forgiveness,

a woman I aspire to be,

a woman I am—

because again,

you will forever live in me.
